First Saturday Mass

Starting October 6th., 2012, Low Mass will be offered at Queen of Heaven Cemetery Chapel every first Saturday of the month. Mass will start at 12:00 noon. Fr. Nicholas A. Milich will be our celebrant.

This is a devotion of reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, done to honor Our Lady's sorrows as suggested by Our Lord in an apparition to Sister Lucia a visionary from Fatima in 1925 and as requested by Our Lady. The First Saturday Devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary was first mentioned by Our Lady of Fatima on July 13, 1917
Christians have always honored the Blessed Virgin on Saturday because of her constant faith in Jesus on that first Holy Saturday before the Resurrection. Five first Saturdays of reparation were requested to atone for the five ways in which people offend the Immaculate Heart of Mary:
1.attacks upon Mary's Immaculate Conception
2.attacks against her Perpetual Virginity
3.attacks upon her Divine Maternity and the refusal to accept her as the Mother of all mankind
4.for those who try to publicly implant in children's hearts indifference, comtempt and even hatred of this Immaculate Mother
5.for those who insult her directly in her sacred images.

Seminarian Update

The following is an update from Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter seminarian Andrew Rapoport:

Everything is going very well for me. I enjoyed my summer but I'm
definitely glad to be back at the seminary.
Last week we had a 5 day silent retreat in preparation for the new
academic year. This week is our first week of classes. I am beginning my
first year of philosophy. I have 3 philosophy classes along with Latin,
Church history, Gregorian Chant and a class on the Roman Missal. I have
not had any previous philosophy classes so I'm greatly looking forward to
this experience.
Later this week 16 new first year men will be arriving.
On October 20th my class will have our tonsure ceremony. There will be a
Solemn Pontifical Mass and I will receive the cassock. My family and some
of my friends will be coming, so I'm excited for that.
I hope everything has been going well for you and the Latin Mass
community. I continue to pray for all of you and especially Fr. Milich.
Please keep me in your prayers as well.

Traditional Latin Mass Confirmation Information

His Excellency Bishop Richard Garcia will confer the Sacrament of Confirmation for our Traditional Latin Mass community on November 6th., at 6:30 p.m. at Mission San Juan Bautista.
Confirmation classes will be at 6:30 pm in Room 3 of the Mission Teaching Center. Dates for classes are September 10th., 24th., October 8th., 22nd. and 29th.

High Mass on the Feast of the Assumption of the BVM

The Solemnity of the Feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a Holy Day of Obligation - please join us on Wednesday, August 15th. for High Mass at Queen of Heaven Cemetery Chapel at 6:00 pm.

Monterey Bay Area Latin Mass Schedule 2012-13

We have High Sung Mass every Sunday at 10:30 am, and Low Mass on every First Saturday of the month at 12:00 noon. All Masses are celebrated at Queen of Heaven Cemetery Chapel, except for Confirmation, which will be at Mission San Juan Bautista. Baptisms are also held at Mission San Juan Bautista. A Letter To Our Community From A Seminarian

Recently the Monterey Bay Area Latin Mass Community received the following letter from a Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter Seminarian, who credits in part our Latin Mass for his decision to enter the priesthood. Thank you for any support you are able to send him.

I am a first year seminarian at Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary in Denton, Nebraska. I am originally from Los Osos, Ca (15 min. from San Luis Obispo.) The reason I am contacting the Monterey Bay Area Latin Mass Community is because the High Mass that used to be at Mission San Juan Bautista played an important role in my discernment.
I started to discern the priesthood in August of 2010 after I began to feel an interior calling. At the time I had no clear idea of where God was calling me. I had been going to the Newman Center at Cal Poly and I met some very devout young Catholics. One of my more traditional friends invited me to the Byzantine Liturgy and then to the Traditional Latin Mass. After these experiences, I had a great desire to learn more about the traditions of the Catholic Church. I started to read books about the Blessed Sacrament and the Holy Mass.
Before long, my friend and I planned a trip to San Juan Bautista for the Sung Latin Mass. This was our first time to a High Mass and we were completely amazed, especially by the beautiful Gregorian Chant and Fr. Milich's powerful preaching. After that I definitely felt God calling me to pursue the traditional priesthood. I had been doing much research online and came across the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter. I was attracted by the seriousness with they placed on the formation of priests and their love for the Traditional Latin Mass. I soon arranged a meeting with an F.S.S.P. priest at their apostolate in San Diego. The meeting went very well and the priest encouraged me to apply to the seminary for the following year. Two months later I visited the seminary. This also went very smoothly. I got along well with the seminarians and was impressed by the formation program. I was most impressed by the reverence of the priests and seminarians.
Upon returning home, I began the application process. I continued to prayerfully discern and I would attend the Latin Mass at Mission San Juan Bautista when I had the chance. In May of 2011 I attended the F.S.S.P. vocation retreat and was accepted to Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary in July.
Being here at the seminary has been a great blessing. We have daily Mass and we chant Lauds, Sext, Vespers, and Compline in common. The classes have been excellent and I have met many outstanding seminarians.

My Summer break begins in the end of May and I am definitely looking forward to attending the Holy Latin Mass with the Monterey Bay Area Latin Mass community. Until then I will continue to keep the Latin Mass Community in my prayers.
