Please join us for First Saturday Mass on November 7th., 2015, at 12:00 noon. Confession will be available from 11:30 - 11:50 am. After Mass our Chaplain Fr. After the imposition of Scapular, all are invited to stay and pray the Rosary. Information about the Sabbatine Privilege will be available.

Pope Benedict XV, addressing seminarians in Rome:
"Let all of you have a common language and a common armor: The language, the sentences of the Gospel - the common armor, the Brown Scapular of the Virgin of Carmel which you ought to wear and which enjoys the singular privilege and protection after death."

Pope Pius XII referred to the Scapular as “The Sign of Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.” The Pope also said the Scapular marks us as one of Mary’s chosen children, and becomes for us a “Garment of Grace.”

All Saints/All Souls activities this Sunday, Nov. 1st., 2015

A reminder that our All Saints/All Souls Activities are this Sunday, Nov. 1st. We will be praying the Litany of the Saints after Mass, and then proceed directly out to the grave sites. Directly after the procession we will have a taco bar lunch available for all. Please join us as there will be plenty to eat. We encourage the children to dress in their favorite saint costume, although we ask that they refrain from wearing the costumes to Mass due to the distraction. Please assist your children to dress right after Mass so they can join the procession in the cemetery. Parents may want to bring costumes that can slip on over clothing, as we only have 2 bathrooms.

Saint Junipero Serra!

With great joy in the Diocese of Monterey, California, on this day that Fr. Junipero Serra is canonized a Saint, is the following from a St. Anthony's Guild prayer card from 1954:

Junipero Serra, the Franciscan Missionary and Apostle of California, is known for his devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. He sought "the gold and silver of the Indies - the gold of immortal souls and the silver crown of martyrdom," and left his "Rosary of Missions" along California's El Camino Real, from which has sprung most of what is holy and most of what is cultural in the far western part of the United States.

Prayer:

O Lord Jesus Christ, you have rewarded the apostolic zeal of Thy servant Junipero Serra, who, leaving home and fatherland, labored for the salvation of souls in Mexico and California. Thou hast graciously deigned by evident signs and prodigies to glorify him, so that for the exaltation of Thy Most Holy Name he was raised to the honors of the altar. Grant that through his merits I may obtain the grace I desire. Amen.

Saint Junipero Serra, Apostle of California, pray for us~

Novena To Our Lady Of Bethlehem

Dear Lady of Bethlehem, Virgin most pure, Mother of our Savior, may the memory of the cold night Thy Divine son was born cause Thy powerful intercession to overcome the world’s coldness towards the Babe of Bethlehem. Let the flames of love from Thy Immaculate Heart conquer the hearts of all thy children.
Do Thou who suffered such great loneliness when Thy Son was taken from Thee, look with pity upon the void in the hearts of those who know and love Him not. Lead them to Him and His Angels and Saints. Do
Thou who journeyed wearily to Bethlehem, look down with mercy upon mankind trudging along the way of evil, lost and confused. Guide us to Thy Son and the heavenly home He has prepared for us.
Look down with compassion upon us, as we commend to Thy maternal care the needs of Holy Mother Church, our beloved country, our state  and  our families. We place all our petitions at Thy blessed feet. Through Thy powerful intercession may God grant us and the whole world the sacred joy of Bethlehem.
Do Thou also regard with favor our beloved Father Junipero Serra, who brought Thy image to this land and whose remains rest in peace in Thy sanctuary. May he who in life held Thee in such great honor and first made Thy Son known on these shores, be found worthy to be raised to the altars of sainthood.
Our Lady of Bethlehem, pray for us, now and in the hour of our death. Amen.

5th. annual pilgrimage to Our Lady of Bethlehem 2015

The weekend of June 5th.-7th. will be the 5th. annual pilgrimage in honor of Our Lady of Bethlehem, whose statue was the first to arrive in California with Fr. Serra and now is at Mission Carmel.  The initial purpose of the pilgrimage was to have Our Lady returned to the High Altar where she was originally and the novena we have prayed asks for the elevation of Fr. Serra to the altar.  (This will happen in October.) For the history of Our Lady of Bethlehem’s statue please visit www.traditioninaction.org/History/B_020_Belen_1.html

We will start with Mass at 8:30 AM at Mission San Juan Bautista with breakfast at 9:30, graciously provided by the members of the Monterey Bay Area Latin Mass Community.  We leave at about 10:15AM over Old Stage Coach Road and into Salinas/Prunedale.  The pilgrimage ends at Queen of Heaven Cemetery Chapel where we hope to have Benediction at 5PM. (We may end at the bottom of Harrison and drive to the cemetery).  We will then camp at the Sheriff's Posse Grounds for one night, where accommodations are very bare boned.  We will probably have Compline in the evening at the camp along with conversation.  Fr. Zach Akers, FSSP will be the chaplain for the entire pilgrimage.

The second day (Saturday June 6) we will have Mass at the Cemetery at 8 AM. We will drive down to Russell and Harrison where we will begin the pilgrimage via Espinoza into Castroville and onto the Monterrey trail toward Marina.  We will stop at St. Jude's Parish, Marina but not into the parish itself.   We will then be transported to Veteran's Memorial Park campsite in Monterey for the overnight where we will again have Compline in the evening.
(If there are any generous souls who would be willing to help, if needed, to drive from the cemetery on Saturday morning to the Veterans campsite to park vehicles in order to save and register the sufficient number of campsites, that would be great.  It is first come first serve (no reservations) and we need a contingent of vehicles to go there ahead of the pilgrimage to save at least 6 or 7 campsites.)

On the third day (Sunday External Solemnity of Corpus Christi) we will have to travel from Monterey back to Marina at the beginning of the Monterey Trail to begin the pilgrimage.  We must begin early in the morning as we must arrive at Carmel by 2:30PM for Mass at 3PM.  We should leave Marina at about 7:30 or 8 AM.  This part of the pilgrimage must proceed at a relatively quicker pace due to the time constraints at Mission Carmel.

If there is interest in joining us, please let us know no later than the end of this week (May 22) as we need to restrict numbers somewhat due to both accommodation restrictions and also numbers on the roadways.  We presently have about 50 people (mostly families).  Local families can simply join the walk and return home for the evenings if they like.  There would be no problem joining the pilgrimage anywhere along the way.  (We do need to get information on those who plan to come in case things change or to contact the pilgrimage along the way.) Each person (family) is responsible for their own food and accommodation.  We may also collect a stipend for Fr. Akers but this is goodwill offering and intended only for those taking part in the whole "experience". There is a dress code of no jeans or shorts, as this is a religious event.  Pilgrims should wear collared shirts and suitable pants for Mass and walking (usually Kaki) for men and skirts or dresses for women.
Please let me or Fr. Milich’s secretary June Ely  know if you are interested in coming or helping. Thank you and God bless you.

Meriam Ibrahim is free

Meriam Ibrahim is free - thank you for your prayers for her. Through the intersession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, let us continue to pray for our brethren all over the world that suffer for the One True Faith.

Te Redemptoris Dominique nostri

O beautiful Virgin! we acknowledge thee to be the Mother of our Savior and God; but thou art, too, the solace and Help of Christians, in their adversities.

The gates of hell may rage; the old enemy may, in his wrath, stir up anger which may threaten to destroy the people of God;

But this wild passion can do no hurt to those pure souls, whose prayers have won protection and heavenly strength from the Virgin ever Blessed.

If she be our Patroness and help us, the din of wicked war must cease, and our enemies must fall by thousands, or be put to flight.

As on the holy mount of Sion there was a tower and citadel with its well-built wall, and the City of David was safe with its shields and valiant men:

So the Virgin, made strong by the mighty hand of God, and laden with heaven's gifts, wards off from her devoted clients the blows of Satan.

O holy Trinity, to whom all praise is due! grant that we may praise thee through eternal years. May our souls by their faith, and our lips by their hymns, laud thy holy name. Amen

Novena to Our Lady Help of Christians for Meriam Ibrahim

Below please find our Novena to Our Lady Help of Christians for Meriam Ibrahim:

Most Holy Virgin Mary, Help of Christians, how sweet it is to come to your feet, imploring your perpetual help. If earthly mothers cease not to remember their children, how can you, the most loving of all mothers, forget us? Grant then to us, we implore you, your perpetual help in all our necessities. We ask for your unceasing help for all who are now suffering for the Faith, most especially for Meriam Ibrahim. Pray for us, O Mary, Help of Christians, that having invoked you on earth, we may love and eternally thank you in heaven.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be...

Please pray for and help Meriam Ibrahim

Dear Community members,
From the beginning, Catholics have always done all they could to aid and comfort those who were prisoners for their faith. All those who suffer for Christ need our prayers, but some cases demand that we be doers of the Word. On Sunday I spoke of the case of Miriam Ibrahim. For those of you who weren't there, she is  the 27-year-old physician who is in prison in Kartoum, Sudan, condemned to death for her faith. She is in a jail cell with her 18 month old son and is eight and a half months pregnant with a second child. Her legs are shackled, swollen, and bleeding.  About three years ago, she married an American citizen, Daniel Wani, who holds dual citizenship in the two countries and resides in New Hampshire. Earlier this year she  was prosecuted under Sharia (Islamic) law for apostasy from Islam and adultery--since the Sudanese court considers her a Muslim who left the faith. What's more, since Muslim women in Sudan (unlike the men) are not allowed to marry outside Islam, the court also considers her an adulteress.  In fact, Meriam's mother is a Christian and Meriam was raised as Christian after her Muslim father abandoned the family and she claims never to have been a Muslim. The court decided otherwise and sentenced her to 100 lashes for adultery and to be hanged for apostasy from Islam. She was given four days to return to Islam but refused. Once she delivers her baby, probably later this month, she can be flogged--which in itself could endanger her life. Under Sudanese law she will be able to wean the newborn child before being hanged. Their American father will have no claim over the children. So far diplomatic and non-governmental pressure has not had any apparent effect. Please, please, please pray to save this young woman's life, and this young family. Also, please take the time to use some of these links to register a protest with the Sudanese government and to ask for action on the part of our own government.
Blessings,
Father Nicholas A. Milich

A Christmas Novena

Beginning on December 16th., a Christmas Novena:

Hail and blessed be the hour and the moment in which the Son of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary, in a stable in Bethlehem, in the piercing cold of night. In that lone hour vouchsafe, O my God, to hear my prayer and grant my petitions, through the merits of Our Savior Jesus Christ, and His most Blessed Mother. Amen.

Request from Pope Francis and First Saturday Mass for September

A message from Fr. Nicholas A. Milich:

It turns out that our First Saturday Mass this weekend falls on a day that Pope Francis has designated as be a day of voluntary fasting and prayer for the whole Church. The Holy Father is trying to mobilize us all spiritually for the sake of peace: He said:

"I have decided to proclaim for the whole Church on 7 September next, the vigil of the birth of Mary, Queen of Peace, a day of fasting and prayer for peace in Syria, the Middle East, and throughout the world, and I also invite each person, including our fellow Christians, followers of other religions and all men of good will, to participate, in whatever way they can, in this initiative. On 7 September, in Saint Peter’s Square, here, from 19:00 until 24:00, we will gather in prayer and in a spirit of penance, invoking God’s great gift of peace upon the beloved nation of Syria and upon each situation of conflict and violence around the world. Humanity needs to see these gestures of peace and to hear words of hope and peace! I ask all the local churches, in addition to fasting, that they gather to pray for this intention."

As those of you who know the time zones, our noon Mass will fall during the middle of the gathering in St. Peter's Square. So, try to make it to Mass this Saturday, offer the Rosary, fast if you can. It is all voluntary but this is an extraordinary request by the Holy Father. He is calling upon our "Catholitas" and we need to respond.

Fr. Milich

Note: Our First Saturday Mass for September will be on September 7th. at 12 noon at Queen of Heaven Cemetery Chapel.
