"Let all of you have a common language and a common armor: The language, the sentences of the Gospel - the common armor, the Brown Scapular of the Virgin of Carmel which you ought to wear and which enjoys the singular privilege and protection after death."

Pope Pius XII referred to the Scapular as “The Sign of Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.” The Pope also said the Scapular marks us as one of Mary’s chosen children, and becomes for us a “Garment of Grace.”

All Saints/All Souls activities this Sunday, Nov. 1st., 2015

A reminder that our All Saints/All Souls Activities are this Sunday, Nov. 1st. We will be praying the Litany of the Saints after Mass, and then proceed directly out to the grave sites. Directly after the procession we will have a taco bar lunch available for all. Please join us as there will be plenty to eat. We encourage the children to dress in their favorite saint costume, although we ask that they refrain from wearing the costumes to Mass due to the distraction. Please assist your children to dress right after Mass so they can join the procession in the cemetery. Parents may want to bring costumes that can slip on over clothing, as we only have 2 bathrooms.

Saint Junipero Serra!

With great joy in the Diocese of Monterey, California, on this day that Fr. Junipero Serra is canonized a Saint, is the following from a St. Anthony's Guild prayer card from 1954:

Junipero Serra, the Franciscan Missionary and Apostle of California, is known for his devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. He sought "the gold and silver of the Indies - the gold of immortal souls and the silver crown of martyrdom," and left his "Rosary of Missions" along California's El Camino Real, from which has sprung most of what is holy and most of what is cultural in the far western part of the United States.

Prayer:

O Lord Jesus Christ, you have rewarded the apostolic zeal of Thy servant Junipero Serra, who, leaving home and fatherland, labored for the salvation of souls in Mexico and California. Thou hast graciously deigned by evident signs and prodigies to glorify him, so that for the exaltation of Thy Most Holy Name he was raised to the honors of the altar. Grant that through his merits I may obtain the grace I desire. Amen.

Saint Junipero Serra, Apostle of California, pray for us~

Novena To Our Lady Of Bethlehem

Dear Lady of Bethlehem, Virgin most pure, Mother of our Savior, may the memory of the cold night Thy Divine son was born cause Thy powerful intercession to overcome the world’s coldness towards the Babe of Bethlehem. Let the flames of love from Thy Immaculate Heart conquer the hearts of all thy children.
Do Thou who suffered such great loneliness when Thy Son was taken from Thee, look with pity upon the void in the hearts of those who know and love Him not. Lead them to Him and His Angels and Saints. Do
Thou who journeyed wearily to Bethlehem, look down with mercy upon mankind trudging along the way of evil, lost and confused. Guide us to Thy Son and the heavenly home He has prepared for us.
Look down with compassion upon us, as we commend to Thy maternal care the needs of Holy Mother Church, our beloved country, our state  and  our families. We place all our petitions at Thy blessed feet. Through Thy powerful intercession may God grant us and the whole world the sacred joy of Bethlehem.
Do Thou also regard with favor our beloved Father Junipero Serra, who brought Thy image to this land and whose remains rest in peace in Thy sanctuary. May he who in life held Thee in such great honor and first made Thy Son known on these shores, be found worthy to be raised to the altars of sainthood.
Our Lady of Bethlehem, pray for us, now and in the hour of our death. Amen.

5th. annual pilgrimage to Our Lady of Bethlehem 2015

The weekend of June 5th.-7th. will be the 5th. annual pilgrimage in honor of Our Lady of Bethlehem, whose statue was the first to arrive in California with Fr. Serra and now is at Mission Carmel.  The initial purpose of the pilgrimage was to have Our Lady returned to the High Altar where she was originally and the novena we have prayed asks for the elevation of Fr. Serra to the altar.  (This will happen in October.) For the history of Our Lady of Bethlehem’s statue please visit www.traditioninaction.org/History/B_020_Belen_1.html

We will start with Mass at 8:30 AM at Mission San Juan Bautista with breakfast at 9:30, graciously provided by the members of the Monterey Bay Area Latin Mass Community.  We leave at about 10:15AM over Old Stage Coach Road and into Salinas/Prunedale.  The pilgrimage ends at Queen of Heaven Cemetery Chapel where we hope to have Benediction at 5PM. (We may end at the bottom of Harrison and drive to the cemetery).  We will then camp at the Sheriff's Posse Grounds for one night, where accommodations are very bare boned.  We will probably have Compline in the evening at the camp along with conversation.  Fr. Zach Akers, FSSP will be the chaplain for the entire pilgrimage.

The second day (Saturday June 6) we will have Mass at the Cemetery at 8 AM. We will drive down to Russell and Harrison where we will begin the pilgrimage via Espinoza into Castroville and onto the Monterrey trail toward Marina.  We will stop at St. Jude's Parish, Marina but not into the parish itself.   We will then be transported to Veteran's Memorial Park campsite in Monterey for the overnight where we will again have Compline in the evening.
(If there are any generous souls who would be willing to help, if needed, to drive from the cemetery on Saturday morning to the Veterans campsite to park vehicles in order to save and register the sufficient number of campsites, that would be great.  It is first come first serve (no reservations) and we need a contingent of vehicles to go there ahead of the pilgrimage to save at least 6 or 7 campsites.)

On the third day (Sunday External Solemnity of Corpus Christi) we will have to travel from Monterey back to Marina at the beginning of the Monterey Trail to begin the pilgrimage.  We must begin early in the morning as we must arrive at Carmel by 2:30PM for Mass at 3PM.  We should leave Marina at about 7:30 or 8 AM.  This part of the pilgrimage must proceed at a relatively quicker pace due to the time constraints at Mission Carmel.

If there is interest in joining us, please let us know no later than the end of this week (May 22) as we need to restrict numbers somewhat due to both accommodation restrictions and also numbers on the roadways.  We presently have about 50 people (mostly families).  Local families can simply join the walk and return home for the evenings if they like.  There would be no problem joining the pilgrimage anywhere along the way.  (We do need to get information on those who plan to come in case things change or to contact the pilgrimage along the way.) Each person (family) is responsible for their own food and accommodation.  We may also collect a stipend for Fr. Akers but this is goodwill offering and intended only for those taking part in the whole "experience". There is a dress code of no jeans or shorts, as this is a religious event.  Pilgrims should wear collared shirts and suitable pants for Mass and walking (usually Kaki) for men and skirts or dresses for women.
Please let me or Fr. Milich’s secretary June Ely  know if you are interested in coming or helping. Thank you and God bless you.

Sacramento Traditional Mass Society

A thank you from Mission St. Therese, Africa

The following is a thank you email from Canon Fragelli for our Lenten collection of religious items and donations, sent to Mission St. Therese in Mouila, Africa:

"I am at Mouila and since a more formal thank you can take some time to send and actually reach you, I would like to, by this email, thank the Monterey Bay Area Latin Mass Community for the wonderful packages that you sent our way. Every single item that you sent is well appreciated. Nothing goes to waste here at the Mission. Beyond the value of what you sent, there is the moral encouragement that reaches us here in the deep African jungle. A message that says: “Someone cares for us”.
Please be assured of our prayers for you and all your intentions. We make it our own. I will remember them especially at the altar.
May God bless you and Our Blessed Mother be always in your good hearts."

2015 Lenten collection for Mission in Gabon, Africa

Canon Fragelli imposing the Miraculous Medal on 300 of the faithful in Gabon, Africa

Thank you to all of you that donated so generously to our Lenten collection for the St. Therese Mission in Gabon, Africa. The hundreds of medals, rosaries, scapulars, other religious items, and financial donations collected during Lent were sent off this week.

From Canon Fragelli:
"Being that Mission Saint Therese of the Infant Jesus is situated in a very poor area, the work of the Mission would simply not be possible without the generosity of donors like you. And here every gift, big or small, counts tremendously. Nothing, absolutely nothing, goes to waste.
The Mission needs donations for its different projects, but most importantly it needs Monthly Donors that, even if by a smaller amount, allow these projects to have stability and continuity. And only in Heaven you’ll know all the good that you do, as well the immenseness of our gratitude."

If you would like to make donating to the Missions in Africa a regular part of your giving, here is a link to Canon Fragelli's website, Friends of the Mission St. Therese of the Infant Jesus. It contains all of the information about his work there, and how to support Mission St. Therese. Please also take a minute to sign up for Canon Fragelli's quarterly Mission Report.

Easter Sunday 2015 - He is risen!

After the sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, approached, rolled back the stone, and sat upon it. His appearance was like lightning and his clothing was white as snow. The guards were shaken with fear of him and became like dead men. Then the angel said to the women in reply, “Do not be afraid! I know that you are seeking Jesus the crucified. He is not here, for He has been raised just as He said. Come and see the place where He lay. Then go quickly and tell His disciples, ‘He has been raised from the dead, and He is going before you to Galilee; there you will see Him.’ Behold, I have told you.” - Matthew 28:1

JMJ Home Christmas Outreach 2014 Thank You

Please forgive the delay in getting the information from our Jesus Mary Joseph Home gift delivery. This year I had to stay home with our newborn Gregory James, so I sent my husband Matt with the gifts. He was accompanied by our daughters, Tracey Lawrence with her daughters, Lexi Zenk, Kelly Clawson and her girls. Matt remarked, "that home is such a treasure, I wish more of the Latin Mass community could experience it and join us on the delivery next year!".
On that note, next year I hope to start the gift gathering a bit earlier and remind any of those interested on joining us to come along for a brief visit. Thank you for all your generosity and love.
