Novena for the upcoming election of our new Pope

In preparation for the upcoming election of a new Sovereign Pontiff, all
are invited to pray the following novena from March 1st. to the 9th.  The
novena will consist of the Veni Creator Spiritus, the collect of the
votive Mass for the election of a Sovereign Pontiff, and three
invocations.

Veni Creator Spiritus

Come, Holy Ghost, Creator, come. From thy bright heavenly throne! Come,
take possession of our souls. And make them all Thine Own!
Thou who art called the Paraclete, Best gift of God above, The Living
Spring, The Living Fire, Sweet Unction, and True Love!
Thou who are sevenfold in Thy grace, Finger of God’s right hand,
His Promise, teaching little ones
To speak and understand!
O guide our minds with thy blest light, With love our hearts inflame, And
with thy strength, which ne’er decays, Confirm our mortal frame.
Far from us drive our hellish foe, True peace unto us bring, And through
all perils guide us safe Beneath thy sacred wing.
Through Thee may we the Father know, Through Thee the Eternal Son, And
Thee the Spirit of them both Thrice blessed Three in One.
Now to the Father, and the Son Who rose from death, be glory given, With
Thee, O holy Comforter, Henceforth by all in earth and heaven. Amen.

O Lord, with suppliant humility, we entreat Thee, that in Thy boundless
mercy Thou wouldst grant the most holy Roman Church a pontiff, who by his
zeal for us, may be pleasing to Thee, and by his good government may ever
be honored by Thy people for the glory of Thy name. Through Our Lord
Jesus Christ.

Ash Wednesday 2013

Please join us for Mass and distribution of the ashes this coming Wednesday, Feb. 13th., at 6:00 pm at Queen of Heaven Cemetery Chapel.

Candlemas - First Saturday Mass for February

Please join us for Candlemas, which will also fortunately be our First Saturday Mass, on February 2nd. at 12:00 noon. All are welcome and encouraged to bring candles 10 minutes before Mass to be blessed.
Also know as the Purification of the Blessed Virgin or the Feast of the Presentation, Candlemas commemorates the purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the presentation of Christ in the temple, which occurred 40 days after his birth as prescribed by Mosaic law.
St. Luke, quoting Exodus 13:2,12, writes that Mary and Joseph took Jesus to Jerusalem because every firstborn child was to be dedicated to the Lord. They also went to sacrifice a pair of doves or two young pigeons, signifying that Mary and Joseph were poor. Once in the temple, Jesus was purified by the prayer of Simeon, in the presence of Anna the prophetess. Simeon, upon seeing the Messiah, gave thanks to the Lord, singing a hymn now called the Nunc Dimittis:

Nunc dimittis servum tuum, Domine
Secundum verbum tuum in pace:
Quia viderunt oculi mei salutare tuum
Quod parasti ante faciem omnium populorum:
Lumen ad revelationem gentium,
Et gloriam plebis tuae Israel.

Lord, now you let your servant go in peace,
your word has been fulfilled:
My own eyes have seen the salvation,
which you have prepared in the sight of every people:
a light to reveal you to the nations
and the glory of your people Israel.

Simeon told Mary, "Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is spoken against, (and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that thoughts out of many hearts may be revealed." Simeon thus foreshadowed the crucifixion and the sorrows of Mary.

Walk For Life West Coast Rally in San Francisco

All are invited to join the 9th Annual Walk for Life West Coast Rally in San Francisco on January 26, 2013. Founded in 2005, the Walk for Life West Coast’s mission is to change the perceptions of a society that thinks abortion is an answer.

Walk participants will include Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, the papal nuncio to the United States, 14 Catholic bishops including San Francisco’s new Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, and thousands of other pro-life supporters from throughout the Bay Area and across the United States and Canada.

There will be a Solemn High Mass in the Extraordinary Form, following the Walk for Life West Coast. The Mass will be at the National Shrine of Saint Francis of Assisi, 610 Vallejo St, San Francisco, at 5:00 p.m. after Walk For Life. The Shrine is only about a mile from Justin Herman Plaza, the end of the walk.
The celebrant will be Fr. Francisco Nahoe, OFM Conv, Rector of the Saint Thomas Aquinas Cathedral in Reno, NV. Saint Ann's Schola of Palo Alto, CA, conducted by Professor William Mahrt of Stanford University, will accompany.

Potluck after Mass on the Feast of the Epiphany

In the spirit of the Christmas season, please join us for potluck brunch after Mass on Epiphany, January 6th. It will be our annual "protein food" feed for all of us who are fatiguing of Christmas sweets. There will be electrical outlets for those who want to keep dishes hot.  All are welcome and encouraged to come, there will plenty of food for everyone~
Due to bad weather, the potluck has been postponed until next Sunday, January 13th.

High Mass on the Feast of the Circumcision of the Lord

The Solemnity of the Feast of the Circumcision is a Holy Day of Obligation - please join us on Tuesday, January 1st. for High Mass at Queen of Heaven Cemetery Chapel at 10:30 am.

The Feast of the Circumcision was instituted in honor of our Lord's receiving, on the eighth day after His birth, the mark of God's covenant with Abraham.

And at the end of eight days, when He was circumcised, He was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb (Luke 2:21)
